What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of alternative therapy that originated in Japan in the late 19th century. It's based on the belief that a universal life force energy flows through all living beings, and that imbalances or disruptions in this energy flow can cause physical, emotional, and spiritual distress.

Principles of Reiki

Universal Life Force Energy: Practitioners believe in a universal energy that can be harnessed and channeled to promote healing and balance.

Energy Transfer: Through the laying on of hands, practitioners aim to transfer this universal energy to the recipient, enhancing their body's natural healing capabilities.

Balance and Harmony: The objective is to bring the body’s energy into balance and harmony, which, in turn, promotes physical and emotional wellbeing.

Holistic Healing: Reiki is seen as a holistic practice, addressing the body, mind, and spirit.

Techniques and Symbols

Hands-On Healing: Practitioners use specific hand positions to channel energy to various parts of the recipient’s body.

Symbols: Certain symbols are used by practitioners to help focus their intent and channel energy effectively.

Distance Healing: Some practitioners believe they can send healing energy over distances without being physically present with the recipient.

What to Expect During a 90 Minute Reiki Session

Before the Session

Consultation: A brief discussion about your physical and emotional state, and any specific issues or goals you have for the session.

Setting the Ambiance: The practitioner might create a calming environment using soft lighting, gentle music, or aromatherapy.

Positioning: You will typically be asked to lie down on a massage table, fully clothed.

During the Session

Relaxation: A few moments of relaxation to make you comfortable and receptive to the energy transfer.

Energy Channelling: The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above your body, moving through various positions to channel energy to different areas.

Energy Transfer: The practitioner focuses on transferring energy, either through hands-on contact or by hovering their hands slightly above your body.

Balancing the Chakras: Some practitioners may focus on balancing the body’s energy centers, or chakras.

Observation: The practitioner might pay attention to any shifts in energy or responses from your body to guide the session.

After the Session

Rest: You might rest for a few minutes to allow the energy to integrate and to regain your bearings.

Feedback: The practitioner may share observations, and you can discuss your experiences and sensations during the session.

Aftercare Advice: Tips on how to maximize the benefits of the session, such as drinking plenty of water or engaging in activities that promote relaxation.
